SELF - AWARENESS
Objective
Self-awareness is the ability to recognize our own emotions and how they are reflected in our mood, if we can understand ourselves we can define the reason for our behavior.
Self-awareness is a determining factor before doing any activity and before trying to meet other people. How interesting would it be to understand the questions you ask yourself, like why did I do this or why did I say it? and beyond this it would be interesting to listen to our conscience and accept ourselves as we are, with good and bad elements, elements that embarrass us and many others that can scare us, after this take them, analyze them and improve them so that the result is this is me.
Reflective
Self-awareness allows us to take control over our own actions and thoughts, it is the first step for the development of emotional intelligence, to dominate and balance our behavior and improve it, eliminate inappropriate behaviors and how we present them to other people.
Taking advantage of resources and opportunities being aware of them will allow us to understand our own reality. (Pico, 2017) https://psicopico.com septembre 24, 2017, Ivan Pico 17 de noviembre de 2020
Interpretative
The process of achieving self-awareness and reaching emotional intelligence is not an easy goal, for this we will have to have 4 clear objectives.
1. Know and understand your emotions
Identifying your basic emotions can be easy since we all know internally when we are feeling happy, excited or angry. However, this is not enough, we must know the differences or variations of emotions since secondary emotions are derived from these basic emotions, each one with its respective differences, for example an emotion derived from joy can be pride, or a secondary emotion of the fear could be anxiety. The more deeply we know our evolued emotions, better we will understand the causes of their origin.
2. Relate emotions to behavior and thinking.
We must be able to relate what we feel with what we do, otherwise we could suffer consequences of confusion and mental and emotional fatigue that affects us physically and psychologically. The emotions related to our nervous and muscular system are directly related to our facial expression, body movement and even our tone of voice.
3. Identify how feelings affect personal and work life.
Another goal of managing self-awareness is to identify how feelings and emotions affect my performance in whatever field I am in. For example, identifying that when we feel happy we increase our work performance and being aware that happiness increases our relationships with other people.
4. Be aware of your values and goals.
We call values to how each person thinks and acts, these values are built throughout life and can change with respect to what has been lived and variations such as age or economic level, identifying these values are an important step to achieve self-awareness.
On the other hand, once the values are identified, we can also establish and related to them, a series of personal objectives that we want to achieve in our lives, it is important that these objectives have characteristics such as being specific, measurable, real and in a period of time determined.
Decisional
After defining the four objectives that can help myself to become self-aware and also to acquire emotional intelligence, I think that I should be able to isolate and manage those emotions that may affect in an inappropriate way my personal performance and in relation to other people.
Personally, I consider that I am an anxious person and this is derived from fear, so it is important to overcome those fears and insecurities to better project myself to what I could achieve.

I find this post interesting because when we talk about ourselves we are talking an endless work in progress. Our own being will never cease to impress us no matter how old we grow. Therefore the journey to be self-aware is a long one and should always be taken with an open-mind otherwise it is pointless trying to improve yourself.

ReplyDeleteThank you Gabriel for your comment, I agree with everything you propose. Discovering how one can improve by oneself is a lifelong task, only experience will give us to understand where we improve and where we fail.
